The Indian Commerce Minister said that the Indian government’s decision will make the daily life of about a billion people living in poverty easier. Begosh Gogal said the 2 trillion rupiah (9,000 billion HUF) scheme, which will run until December next year, will affect more than 813 million people.
Meanwhile, the minister announced the cessation of the free food program that was introduced due to the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the newly launched draft of the Free Food Grains Programme, Indian families can get about 35 kilograms of grain per month for one rupee (4.5 forints). The minister emphasized that the program affects millions of poor families.
The canceled food program was necessary because India’s economy was hit hard by the pandemic, and hundreds of millions of needy people were forced out of the house due to soaring food prices. Under the rather expensive programme, the poorest families received five kilograms of food grain free of charge per month.
