2. Dr. Laszlo Renka Memorial Competition
Debrecen – 14-15 September 2024.
Last weekend, Debrecen Sportuszoda hosted the first autumn competition of the senior swimming season, organized by the Debrecen Senior Swimming Club, which also bears the name of the late excellent local swimmer, Dr. László Rentka, and is now in its second year. Athletes from over forty federations submitted their entries for the competition, and in addition to the Hungarian swimmers, there were also competitors from Austria, Serbia, Romania and Slovakia. The Debrecen team deserves credit, as they organized a magnificent competition from both a sports professional and a catering point of view.
Szentesi Delfin ESC was represented by 14 people in the “Capital of Hajdúsaj”, and the association’s swimmers had a very successful event, finishing the weekend with 48 medals (23 gold – 17 silver, 8 bronze), thus securing third place in the team competition. The organizers organized 38 competitions over the two days, many of which began as commemorative events, with the winners on the podium, both female and male, being honored separately in terms of percentage of time compared to the world records for their age group. Accordingly, Dr. Finchel Kencsó won first place ever in the 200 m breaststroke (93.79%), and Éva Pólyáné Téli took second place ever in the 200 m breaststroke (84.77%) and 100 m breaststroke (82.88%). During the competition, two national records were set, both attributed to Szentesi Delfin ESC swimmer Dr. Vinczil Kentsche, who crossed the finish line with a time of 2:22.71 in the 200m freestyle and 5:40.46 in the 200m freestyle and 400m medley.
