Smart weather software called GraphCast can provide an accurate 10-day forecast in seconds.
Google’s DeepMind team has introduced its own intelligent weather software called GraphCast, which promises the ability to predict the weather more accurately and faster than current systems, writes Interesting geometry.
It was written by researchers from the tech giant’s artificial intelligence department, and was published in the scientific journal Science Stady He presented the model supported by artificial intelligence, which can predict the weather 10 days in advance, with unprecedented accuracy, in less than a minute.
GraphCast becomes a “weather expert” by using a graph neural network to monitor weather trends over more than 40 years of ECMWF data collection. In addition to better performance, it was also faster than solutions used so far.
The AI model can also provide advance information about hurricanes, floods and extreme temperatures, thanks to which it can warn people before events occur, potentially saving lives.
At the same time as the announcement, the team made the model open source, making its code available to scientists and meteorologists around the world. However, it should be noted that the model does not deal with uncertainty in weather forecasts, so it may have errors to begin with.
