The deadline for EU citizens living in the UK to apply for permanent residence ends on Wednesday.
Britain left the European Union on January 31 last year, but EU citizens who have settled legally and habitually in the country until the end of 2020, at the end of an eleven-month transition period after the end of British membership in the European Union (Brexit), can stay while maintaining on all their acquired rights.
However, they must apply for an indefinite residence permit, a status that is created under an official legal name. The application deadline is June 30, i.e. Wednesday for EU citizens who have settled in the UK by December 31, 2020.
Acquired status is required for eligible EU citizens to work and study in Britain on the same terms from Thursday 1 July,
and access to free UK healthcare services and other benefits. For the period until the assessment, access to acquired rights will also be guaranteed if the application for established status is submitted by EU citizens living in Great Britain by the deadline on Wednesday.
Everyone receives an official certificate of application, and this certificate can also be used to prove eligibility. Until the application is considered, almost nothing will change for those who have applied for settled status.
EU citizens who meet the requirements for UK status in all respects but missed the deadline on Wednesday will still have the opportunity to apply, but must explain with good reason why they applied after the deadline, and the UK authorities will be asked to do so. In this case, it is determined on an individual basis.
