The Winter Meetings started out pretty slow, but eventually gained some steam, at least from the Yankees’ standpoint. Late Tuesday they succeeded in acquiring Alex Verdugo, and yesterday, their long dance with the Padres finally ended with Juan Soto on his way to the Bronx. That’s the headline, of course, but there’s been a relative torrent of Yankee news elsewhere as well, what with the additional acquisition of Trent Grisham, the loss of two players to the Rule 5 draft, and Aaron Boone’s confirmation that the plan is for DJ LeMahieu to start at base The third in 2024 and more.
It’s been an amazing day, and we’ll continue to cover all the ramifications as we move forward. Today we’ll see more reaction to the Verdugo deal, and of course some comprehensive analysis of the Soto and Grisham acquisitions.
