Total Car - Magazine - In 2023 comes the all-electric Astra

Although she was undercover in July show up The new Astra, Lt a Opel, the official official presentation has just taken place in Rüsselsheim. The sixth generation is entirely designed and developed at its headquarters in Germany, and production is also taking place there. Opel’s new CEO, Uwe Hochgeschurtz, was unveiled on his first day on the job.

Of course, there are no longer many surprises for the world premiere, since recently almost every important detail about one of the most important German models was revealed. As a result, the Astra was awarded the Opel Vizor branding, a pure, fully digital panel inside, and the lighting was made even more modern by the latest version of the Intellilux LED Pixel headlights. This has leaked from the Insignia to the compact class, where the headlights illuminate a total of 168 LED strips.

In terms of physical dimensions, the Astra L, built on the EMP2 floorboard, did not increase much: it was only 4 millimeters (4374 mm) longer than its predecessor, while its wheelbase was 1.3 cm (2675 mm). The engineers also worked on torsional rigidity, with results that were 14 percent better than the previous Astra — obviously beating the numbers, its use can be felt more. Its MacPherson chassis is up front, with a swingarm mounted in the rear.

The new Astra will also be equipped with petrol and diesel engines, the first will have a three-cylinder inlet, while the transmission will have a six-speed manual transmission and an eight-speed automatic. What’s new, however, is that the compact Opel will be available for the first time with a hybrid powertrain, right from the start. Here, in addition to the 1.6-liter turbo, the 109-horsepower electric motor is paired, with a zero-emissions range of about 50 kilometers. The purely electric version will have to wait a little longer: from 2023 the all-electric Astra will be available.

Five-door distribution will begin in early 2022, but orders will be received early this fall. The Sports Tourer, a station wagon, will be added to the range soon, and the Astra will join the range about a year later.
