Claire Legras, France’s ambassador, said at the opening that Noémie Goodale’s work invites the public to reflect on the relationship between fantasy and the reality that surrounds them. Landscapes are central to both artists’ art, said curator Claudia Cosel, but at the same time they approach the subject matter radically before creating their multi-layered works. During the residency programme, Daphna Talmor researched the specific treasures and natural features of the Balaton landscape, such as the ancient karsts of Úrkút, the Roman baths of Bakonynána, the nature trails of the Tihany Peninsula and the basalt members of Hegyestű. Photographs captured on site provided the impetus for the formation of images captured by collecting negatives. Part of Noémie Goudal’s exhibition is a video work from 2021 in which a small lake is surrounded by a lush forest. The serene natural environment turns out to be an orderly site where props depicting nature slowly begin to disintegrate. The result of his time in the area, mainly in the Folly Arboretum, is the installation of Stéréoscopes: in this, the viewer focuses on two different images through lenses. Although both eyes view the images separately, the brain combines the images into a single, three-dimensional scene. Exhibitions can be viewed until August 27.
