Things are going very well at Junior WC in Bucharest. As group winners, our national team made it to the quarter-finals and, after a couple of days’ rest, will probably be the next Italians to make it into the top four. Results, data and goals – on an ongoing basis:
World U-20 Championship, Bucharest (Romania)
Group stage, third round
Greece-Hungary 9:16 (2:4, 2:6, 3:2, 2:4)
G: Ekler Zs. 3, Tátrai, Pető A., Vismeg Zs., Nagy N. 2-2, Molnár E., Mészáros Cs., Lakatos S., Vince Vigvári, Szécsi M.
The Hungarian team won their group and reached the top eight. After two days of rest, it will be our winning opponent in the round of 16 between the Netherlands and Italy on Thursday.
The man of the match was our center Norbert Nagy.Robert Coves, VLV Federal Coach:
“Congratulations! I would like a little evaluation!”
– Thank you for the congratulations – I also congratulate the team once again, and I’m glad we managed to catch the rhythm from the first moment, and the turn against the Greeks was appropriate. We managed to block their quick turns, which was the basis of our defensive tactics. We managed to get their goal-scoring players out of the game, and we were again very effective up front, scoring a lot of goals.
Anyway, we had to overcome a lot of disadvantages again, but our hearts were in the right place, so we were able to take this confident win.
– What then?
– Followed by the second stage of the World Cup, where no mistakes can be made in any match. With our first place in the group, we got additional rest, on Tuesday we will rest and renew, which is necessary, and on Wednesday we will prepare and wait for the opponent in the quarter-finals, which, according to our calculations, will be either the Dutch or the Italian national team. (Italy was only fourth in its group, awaiting the winner of the Netherlands-Japan match in the round of 16).
Nagy Norbert, MVP of the vlv match:
– First of all, I want to congratulate the team! We discussed before the game: just because we have two victories, we should not underestimate the Greeks either. Fortunately, during the warm-up, the team felt that we were going as well, if not better, than in previous games.
From the beginning, we did our best both in defense and in attack. Once again I congratulate the team and hope we can continue this series. Hungarians go for it!
Does being MVP mean anything to you?
“Obviously it’s a great honor, but the most important thing is that we won.”
LAKATOS SOMA for vlv:
– We knew before the match that we would definitely finish in one of the first two places. We also knew that the victory would be psychologically important for the Greeks. That’s why we jumped into the pool in heightened mood and with added stress and focus.
We managed to start the game well and opened the game step by step. I’m happy with the win and the fact that we were able to rise to a higher level. Let’s continue and improve our game in the quarterfinals! Hungarians go for it!
VIKTOR WOOL to vlv:
“Congratulations and I would like to say a few words about the match!”
– First of all, thank you for the congratulations! As for the match: we focus a lot on our defense, on fending off one of the more serious shooters. I think so far this was the game where we were able to impose our will on the opposition the best and dominated the whole time. We had a slightly slower, more static exploit for situations as well as avoidable targets, but overall I’m satisfied with the result.
– Who do you expect as a competitor in the quarter-finals?
– We don’t care who is up against us, we have to defeat everyone in order to be champions. According to the current situation, we know that Italians can be counted on. We analyze them and prepare from their game so as not to be surprised during the match.
Expected: Match goals based on the World Aquatics stream.
