McCuhon argued on Facebook that Russia’s state gas company Gazprom flagrantly violated the terms of existing contracts by suspending gas supplies to Poland and Bulgaria.
This proves that Russia is not a reliable supplier
CEO said.
Gazprom has previously justified the decision on the grounds that the two countries are not ready to pay rubles for Russian natural gas.
McCuhon stressed that gas exports to the EU must decline rapidly, which requires a reduction in transit through Nord Stream 1.
McCuhon explained that the Nord Stream-1 gas pipeline can indeed be shut down without major problems, and the Ukrainian and Polish gas transportation systems will be able to temporarily deliver the required volumes to European consumers. He emphasized that it was already clear to everyone that any new gas pipeline from Russia would not improve the energy security of the European Union countries, but, on the contrary, would increase their dependence on Russia.
The only way out is to reduce the blanket ban or purchases of gas from the Russian Federation and actively search for alternative gas suppliers.

He stressed that his company fully supports the government’s position on the imposition of a complete embargo on Russian energy resources.
Nord Stream-1 is a pair of two pipelines that transport gas from Vyborg, Russia, to Greifswald, Germany, under the Baltic Sea. The first tube was commissioned in 2011 and the second in 2012.
