Ukrainian Armed Forces: Russia launched an attack on the Zaporizhzhya region

The Ukrainian Defense Minister demanded a comprehensive investigation into the alleged Russian missile attack on a Ukrainian assault brigade. This comes after more than 20 soldiers were killed at an awards ceremony.

“I express my sincere condolences to the families of the soldiers who died as members of the 128th Special Mountain Assault Brigade under the Carpathians,” Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustam Omerov said in a post shared on social media. He also announced that he was demanding a “comprehensive investigation.”

In another statement issued via the messaging app Telegram, the Ukrainian Armed Forces revealed that Russia launched an attack on the Zaporizhzhya region using an Iskander ballistic missile. The army stated that “a number of soldiers were killed and local residents were also injured.”

According to first reports from Ukrainian social media and military bloggers, more than 20 soldiers were killed in the village of Zaporizhya near the front line during an Artillery Day awards ceremony on Friday.

In its daily updates of combat activities, the Russian Defense Ministry said only that Russian forces “opened fire” on a unit of a Ukrainian assault brigade in the area, killing up to 30 soldiers.
