In his short video message on Saturday evening, the Ukrainian president particularly praised the fighters of the 110th Independent Mechanized Brigade, where another Russian Sukhoi 25 was shot down in the Donetsk region today.
He stressed that it is important to be very focused these days.
Zelensky did not provide further details about the incident, which Reuters could not immediately verify.
President Volodymyr Zelensky also said that Russia launched eight different types of missiles and nearly 70 guided aerial bombs against settlements and front-line positions during the day, after the Ukrainian air force shot down 13 Shahed drones targeting the Kharkiv and Dnipro regions during the night.
According to Zelensky, Moscow does not want peace. “Russia can only be forced to leave Ukraine alone,” he said in his evening video speech. He declared that the global peace summit scheduled to be held in Switzerland in June – without Russia – “must succeed.”
The news agency reported that Donetsk is one of the four Ukrainian regions that Moscow annexed by its recognition. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Friday that Moscow took control of 547 square kilometers of territory it annexed this year.
