University of Miskolc | Celebrating Celmic Academy

At the event called “Academicians of Selmec Mine”, held on October 11, after singing the miners’ anthem, the mayor of the city, Nadezhda Babikova, celebrated the foundation of the track of industrial historical significance and subsequent institutions that still preserve Selmec traditions, including That is Miskolc University.

The nurses, dressed in old clothes, recalled the organization of high-level training in mining and metallurgy in Selmicbania, and read the proposal of Maria Theresia, the reigning Archduchess of Austria, Queen of Hungary, born in 1762, submitted to the courtroom, on the basis of the Mining Academy.

Celebrants laid a wreath on the memorial wall in the square in front of the Town Hall, then walked to the mining pavilion of the former academy, where representatives of the successor institutions gave a speech, including Professor Dr. Peter Szocs, Vice-Rector of the University of Miskolc.

After the conclusion of the festive events, representatives of Miskolc universities laid a wreath on the monuments of Selmek University, including the miners' ship that was driven out of Miskolc in 2006.

At the “Academies in Selmecbány” celebration, the University of Miskolc was represented by Prof. Dr. Peter Szocs, Vice-Chancellor and Associate Professor Dr. István Havasi, Head of the University Department of OMBKE, and the students were represented by miner Tamás Szavory, valedictorian and mechanic Gergely Bodnar, future valedictorian.
