WHISTLER, British Columbia – Team USA skied down three different tracks in three different countries last week: Whistler, British Columbia, Lillehammer, Norway, and Bludenz, Austria.
The two-day event began on November 29 with the women’s North American Cup single and bobsled races. In the first monopop race, Riley Tejczyk had the best finish for Team USA with a time of 1 minute, 53.44 seconds. Tejcek finished sixth.
Sylvia Hoffman placed eighth with a time of 1:54.49, while Lauren Brzoszewski placed ninth with a time of 1:54.92. In the duo competition, Chris Horn and Jess Johnson dropped to fourth place with a time of 1:48.72.
The slide continued on November 30 with the second race of both events. Brzozowski placed sixth in the monobob with a time of 1:54.54, Tejcek placed seventh with a time of 1:54.73 and Hoffman placed eighth with a time of 1:54.92. In the two-man event, Horn and Johnson took silver with a time of 1:48.08.
The Para Sports World Cup began in Lillehammer, Norway, on November 30. In the opening race, Will Castillo placed fourth with an overall time of 1:53.72. Bob Balke placed fifth with a time of 1:53.89, David Christopher placed ninth with a time of 1:54.03, and Austin Parker placed 10th with a time of 1:54.05.
Castillo took gold in the second race on December 1 with a time of 1:54.13. Balk also reached the podium with a time of 1:54.22. Additionally, Parker placed eighth with a time of 1:54.38.
The first day of December saw more racing in the women’s and men’s skeleton races at the European Cup in Bludenz, Austria. On the women’s level, Michelle Toukan fell to 14th place (1:08.14), while Nick Tucker took first place in the men’s competition, finishing 17th with a time of 1:05.61.
At the NAC Women’s Skeleton on December 1, Logan Woody took fourth in the NAC Whistler races with a time of 1:53.91. In the NAC men’s skeleton, Bradley Nicol finished 11th in his first race with a time of 1:50.35, Darrell Payne finished 13th with a time of 1:53.41, Nick Brooks finished 15th with a time of 1:55.79, and Sam Allred was In sixteenth place with a time of 1:58.15. .
The NAC skeleton races continued the next day with Wudi again finishing fourth, this time with a time of 1:54.90. For the men’s skaters, Nicol finished ninth with a time of 1:51.82, Payne (1:53.63) was 13th and Allred (1:59.01) was 14th.
In the inaugural race of the NAC two-woman bobsled, Hoffman and Amoni Ashby finished third overall and Brzozowski and Sydney Milani finished sixth.
The next day, Brozowski and Melanie placed fifth with a time of 1:54.53 while Hoffman and Ashby placed sixth with a time of 1:54.89.
“The athletes who raced on the development circuits this weekend faced some tough challenges. The Whistler course has proven to be difficult, so our athletes need to be humble, patient and not get discouraged. USABS Director of Sports Performance Curt Tomasiewicz said. “We came away learning a lot and gaining some valuable experience. The Bludens track is a new track on the track, so it requires our athletes to learn quickly and apply experience from other tracks. Once again, the weekend gave us important lessons to build on.
Team USA will make its season debut at the World Cup Circuit in La Plagne, France, on December 8. The event will start with men’s and women’s skeleton.
