The new streaming platform is expected to be a huge success, as it will offer a total of 20,000 movies and series for free. Thus, the service provider is a real competitor not only to Netflix, but also to all other paid platforms.
In our country, Tubi, the American streaming platform that debuted in April this year, is already officially available in the UK only with the help of a VPN. The provider's specialty is that it offers its content for free, which makes it a great competitor to Netflix and other paid platforms like Max, Amazon Prime, Disney+ or Apple TV+.
Hungarians also spend thousands of forints on subscriptions to various providers, so it is assumed that there could be a lot of interest in Tubi in our country, which, although not officially, can be accessed via VPN. In the UK, 20,000 films and series are currently offered to registrants, who can browse the range for free, but in return have to put up with advertising. The available productions include many self-produced works, but also several films and series produced by Disney, Lionsgate, NBCUniversal and Sony Pictures Entertainment.
“Tubi has spent the last decade perfecting the concept of a free, entertaining, and massively popular streaming service in North America. We feel it’s time to bring this to the UK. We’re launching with one of the largest and most diverse content libraries in the country, designed to give viewers everything from blockbuster movies to original stories and hidden gems. We’re committed to listening to what resonates with UK fans and giving them more of what they love,” said Anjali Sood, CEO of Tubi. With Brits obsessed with book adaptations, the new interface is sure to please, as they’ve created a separate category for this genre. The categorized products include classics and blockbusters like twilight– Series, A Gulliver's Travelsthe The fairies are nice. And the seduction the film.
The streaming service already has nearly 80 million monthly active users in the US, and they expect plenty of viewers in the UK too.
“In an age where traditional programming can seem homogeneous, and finding something to watch can be a daunting task, Tubi is effective at providing entertainment beyond its monoculture with content that appeals to a diverse and vibrant audience. We believe we can build a broad and culturally ambitious offering that puts UK audiences at the centre and makes it fun and easy to enjoy entertainment from around the world,” said David Salmon, Tubi’s international managing director.
