Video games have been proven countless times to have both positive and negative effects on humans, and now a recent study claims that they can cause serious hearing damage if you play with headphones on your head for hours.

Sound is an important part of the video game experience for many, but little is known about its impact, and a research group has pulled together all the studies conducted to date to get a more accurate picture.

Researchers 14 Stady Reviewed over 50,000 people from nine different countries, all focusing on the relationship between hearing loss and/or tinnitus and video games. The documents revealed that A As sound intensity increases, the safe exposure time decreases significantly. A three-hour game at high volume can cause much more permanent damage than a 15-minute game at the same level.

According to the World Health Organisation, adults can safely tolerate noise levels of around 80 decibels for 40 hours a week, with 90 decibels down to just four hours before risking hearing damage.
