FuturLab and the Oxford Internet Institute of the University of Oxford presented the results of an international study that showed positive mood changes while playing video games.
The study examined data from 67,328 gaming sessions of 8,695 players from 39 countries while using PowerWash Simulator. Over 162,300 in-game reports show that participants on average reported a more positive mood during the game than before the start of each round, and 72% noticed an improvement in mood during the game.
The findings help understand how the short-term effects of playing video games could be useful for “mood interventions,” the researchers say. They may also support building a “theoretical basis” for the long-term effects that gaming passion can have on mental health.
Playing video games can be good for your mood, according to a new international study by researchers at the Oxford Internet Institute. “We wanted to know how real play in natural contexts could predict a player's mood over short periods of time,” he said. @vuorre.https://t.co/or7GyeHlSC pic.twitter.com/Lo1mtCcFw4
