Marton Fucovich reached the quarterfinals of the men’s grass tennis tournament in Stuttgart, with the total prize money amounting to €795,000 (294 million forint).

The world number 83 – who is beginning his career in qualifying – beat Canada’s Denis Shapovalov (29) from a set deficit in the opening round on Tuesday, and in the round of 16 clashed with Canada’s Wu Jiping (64), who was sent off in the first round of the final. Last year’s Wimbledon, Australian Nick Kyrgios, who returned after a long injury.

In Thursday’s meeting, the 31-year-old Vujovic slowly warmed up, immediately losing his service game, but thanks to his accurate blows, he already had a break advantage of 4: 2, which he maintained throughout.

In the second match, at 2:2, the tennis player from Nyíregyháza again took advantage of the betting opportunity, taking advantage of his 23-year-old rival, but after 4:2 he lost four games in a row, so the Chinese opponent equalized after 81 minutes.

Chapter 3 brought several close service games, but none of the players could break for long. Finally, Fucsovics broke the tie in the best time, at 4:4, and since he hadn’t lost a single ball as a server in the next match, he was able to receive his opponent’s congratulations at the net after 2 hours 7 minutes.

The last time Fucsovics reached the quarter-finals of an ATP tournament was just a year earlier, in the same tournament, then he abandoned his match against Kyrgios midway through the second match.
