Water World Cup: The Hungarian women’s water polo team started by defeating Canada


The Hungarian national team defeated the Canadian national team 11-10 in the opening women’s water polo tournament at the World Olympic Qualifying Championships in Fukuoka on Sunday, MTI writes.


Team captain, Rita Kichtheli, jumped into the pool at her eighth World Cup finals, becoming the only Hungarian record holder ahead of Mercedes Stieber and Ursula Takacs.

The 31-year-old – who was substituted in the final quarter – helped the team with four goals.

Attila Peru will meet hosts Japan on Tuesday and the New Zealanders on Thursday, and if they win on paper, they will go straight to the quarter-finals as a group stage.
