We are not worried about third place.
Head coach Antal Fodor paid special attention to ensuring that every member of the University of Debrecen team had a chance to prove themselves.
DEAC men's volleyball players started at the Grigore András Memorial Tournament in Miskolc on Sunday. MAFC was waiting for our lineup for the first time in the four-team competition. Our players had a bad start in the first set, quickly accumulating a large deficit, which they could not make up in the remaining time. Our team drew the second game, and then in the third set, the will of the Budapestians prevailed. After a 2:1 defeat, Antal Fodor's students improved in the match against TFSE, winning 3:0. In the end, the Marlons, who finished third, failed by the same margin in the confrontation with the host. According to the announcement of the tournament, all matches in the tournament continued in three sets, and the confrontation was played in a round-robin format. It is worth noting that the tournament winner MAFC, the second-placed Miskolc and the fourth-placed TFSE are, like DEAC, in the Extraliga in the 2024/25 season.
– Due to injury and illness, our team was not complete, so our options for changes were limited. Antal Fodor started the conversation. – In the tournament, I gave a chance to all available players. In the meeting against MAFC, we lost a big battle in the third group, although, in general, the Budapest citizens won deservedly. We did not expect to put TFSE with such confidence on our shoulders. In the last match, I already rested the main players, I did not want to increase the pressure on anyone, so that the substitutes could spend a lot of time on the field. In general, we gained useful experience, and the results this time are not interesting, because practice was the most important goal – Experienced trainer confirmed.
On Wednesday, our team will play a warm-up match at Kazinbarska Stadium. According to the plans, this will be the main test before the start of the tournament next week. Antal Fodor's crew will be guests in the MAFC Hall in the first round on October 5.
