“We are not lagging behind. We signed all the necessary agreements so as not to lose money. Negotiations are ongoing,” Tibor Navraxkes told Telex. We asked the Minister for Regional Development about EU funding and the Erasmus program at the government meeting in Sopronbanvalva.
According to Navracsics, the government never promised a specific date for receiving EU money. If asked, they said when they thought they would be able to reach an agreement with the European Commission. “We kept the deadline in everything. Our goal last June was to sign the agreements by the end of the year. We signed the agreements by the end of the year,” said the minister responsible for EU resources, who said that the Hungarian government had fulfilled all the requests of the European Commission. And they had been waiting for a long time to assess the Hungarian commitments in Brussels.
Navraxxx responded to press reports that it was very likely that no agreement on the Erasmus program would be reached with the European Commission by September. This means that students of Hungarian universities run by the Asset Management Foundation will not receive Erasmus scholarships next year.
The minister spoke about the fact that a month ago they sent the normative text of the agreement to the European Commission, but they have not yet answered whether it is appropriate and whether they can submit it to Parliament. According to Navracsics, Erasmus funding is secured until the second semester of 2024, promising that an agreement has been reached with the Commission and that Hungarian students will continue to receive scholarship programmes.
