months ago Reddit Users began dissecting the topic that since the discovery of the Titanic in 1985, no expedition has found human remains on board. In 2012, James Cameron himself said so For the New York Times, Although he dived to the wreck 33 times, he never once saw any traces of human remains. They found clothes and shoes, but no bones.
The scientific explanation is that most people were wearing life jackets when the Titanic began to sink. Many people have lost their lives in the icy water, but have been kept afloat for a long time because of the jacket. The winds and currents quickly swept them elsewhere, so it would be impossible to find the bodies and body parts.
Another explanation is that the remains of the people trapped in the ship must have completely decomposed within 73 years and/or fallen victim to deep-sea predators. The bones would have been found regardless – as they have already been found in many other shipwrecks – and the depth of 3,821 meters is believed to be the reason why they were not found there either.
Of course, it is possible that there are still remains in closed parts of the ship, such as the engine room, but 111 years after the tragedy, the chance of that is very slim.
Titanic ship
The British Olympic-class passenger liner RMS Titanic was one of the largest luxury ocean liners of its time. She had a segmented hull that was considered unsinkable, but she sank on her maiden voyage. The ship was built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland. On its maiden voyage (from Southampton, England, to Cherbourg, France, to Queenstown, Ireland, to New York, USA), the ship struck an iceberg at 11:40 pm on Sunday, April 14, 1912, and on Monday, April 1. At 2:20 a.m., just over two and a half hours after the collision, it split in two and sank.
With the advent of nuclear submarines, the location of large shipwrecks was classified as a military secret, because a large mass of iron or steel causes magnetic disturbances, and the compass stops rotating after a while. Therefore, the precise location of shipwrecks is important for submarine underwater navigation. Presumably the location of the wreck was already known by nuclear submarine fleets, so it is likely that due to the development of instruments after 1985, it was no longer useful to keep it secret.
Discovery of the ship by Dr. It was announced by Robert Ballard in 1985. The wreck lies in two larger pieces at a depth of 3,821 meters on the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, 900 kilometers off the coast of Newfoundland. The nose part was relatively intact and reached the bottom in one piece, while the back part disintegrated during the descent. The distance between the two parts is about 600 meters.
