Although the Japanese publisher has already stated that they are trying to make something out of this IP, there have been a lot of rumors about this franchise since then… here are the latest.
Xbox first hinted at the franchise on WhatsApp when it wrote: “Make memories. It feels like summer.” The first sentence appeared with a photo on Xbox’s Instagram account in Mexico, but the WhatsApp message was accompanied by a mysterious video, strongly suggesting that a remastered version of Jet Set Radio Future could be made. This game was released on Xbox 22 years ago, and the video not only reminded us of the Xbox-exclusive Jet Set Radio episode with its vivid visuals, but also the music, as it also brought that unique style…
SEGA will be represented at Gamescom, and since there was no E3 this year, it will be one of the biggest video game events of the summer that also requires an in-person presence. The timing of the Japanese company’s trip to Cologne and the Jet Set Radio reference at the same time doesn’t seem to be a coincidence. Xbox marketing materials have surfaced on Twitter, and fans seem to be very receptive to the upcoming announcement. One wrote that if the Jet Set Radio Future remaster is true, he’ll buy an Xbox Series X so he can play it on his TV in widescreen and 4K resolution. Another wrote that if SEGA releases the remaster, his life will belong to the Japanese publisher.
So something could be made not only from the first part (we've already heard about reboots and remasters…), but also from the second part. There's no doubt that SEGA's IP still has a large audience, and the Japanese publisher wants to capitalize on that. Since Jet Set Radio Future was an Xbox exclusive, the remastered version will likely be Xbox Series/PC only unless SEGA thinks it's time to make this part multiplatform.
But all this is unofficial.
