Will Spelman College Open Its Doors To Transgender Students?
Spelman College President Mary Schmidt Campbell is assembling a task force to provide recommendations on whether the all-women’s, historically black college will admit transgender students.
As Colleges and Universities aim for inclusion across the board for LGBT and transgender students, Dr. Campbell’s is developing recommendations on possibly updating the school policy to begin accepting transgender students.
The transgender task force is one of two Campbell is creating to review campus issues.

The task force considering transgender students will be headed by Spelman’s Vice President of Enrollment Management.
Reports from the task force are anticipated to be completed by the end of the school year. Spelman is the latest women’s college in considerations to begin admitting transgender students, with institutions including Barnard College in New York and Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts.
