This is New Zealand’s first gold medal at the Winter Olympics, having won 53 times at the Summer Games.
In women’s downhill swimming, only a US gold medal has been born so far, but now they have had to take the silver – not to mention Julia Marino’s first US podium finish in Beijing.
Countryman Jimmy Anderson, winner of the last two Olympics, missed each round and finished only ninth.
Camila Kuzupak finished 28th in Saturday’s qualifier as a jumper and did not reach the final on Sunday.
