After a score-filled first quarter, the Canadian women’s water polo team deservedly beat New Zealand 13-11 in the second round of Group D of the Fukuoka World Water Polo Championships, in the Hungarian Foursome.

North America’s second game, defeated by the Hungarians, started at a high pace, with an 11-goal first quarter, and Canada winning 7-4. Although New Zealand won the second quarter 3-1, they couldn’t get any closer, and after a halftime change, Canada answered 3-0 and closed out the main questions.
Although the Oceania team tried to stay out at first, they could only sweeten the score. 13-11
In Group A, the USA won by four goals against Australia in a relatively low-scoring match, while the French defeated the Chinese 12-11. The French team turned the game around by scoring five goals in the final quarter, and UVSE-educated Hungarian-born Ursula Hertzka, who previously played water polo at BVSC and Eger, played a big part in this, scoring both of her goals in the period.
