Last June, the 30-year-old Danish midfielder collapsed on the field of cardiac arrest at the end of the first half of the group match against Finland in the European Championship, but thanks to the quick intervention of his teammates and medical staff. He was able to revive him and save his life. After the operation, he was taken to the hospital, where he spent six days, got a pacemaker, and then went home.
Later, his club team, Inter Milan, terminated his contract by mutual agreement, because the regulations in Italy did not allow him to play with a pacemaker. Eriksen returned as a Brentford player in the spring, and since the summer has been a footballer for Manchester United, and while he has played eight times for Denmark this year, he also scored against World Cup silver medalist Croatia in September.
“One of the first things I talked about with the doctors was that my goal was to play in the World Cup, if all went well. That was my dream at the time.” Eriksen remembers the difficult period. The midfielder, who has scored 39 goals in 117 matches for the national team, feels good and admits that nothing can stand in his way.
At the World Cup, the Danish national team was in the same group as the defending champion France, as well as the Australians and Tunisians.
