Zelensky's comments came shortly after the White House confirmed it had lifted the ban on Ukraine's use of some US weapons against Russian territory near Kharkiv and the Sumy region.
But Washington continues to prevent Ukraine from using ATACMS and other long-range weapons supplied by the United States to strike deeper into Russia.
Speaking at a security conference, Zelensky thanked US President Joe Biden for the latest concession but insisted that restrictions, including a ban on the use of ATACMS, must be lifted.
Zelensky said Kiev is awaiting permission to strike Russian military airports, which are a starting point for attacks on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure. He added that Russia had installed about 300 weapons systems loaded with tens of thousands of missiles on its side of the border to attack Ukraine.
“So these weapons are there and they are not removing them because they know that Ukraine cannot target them with Western weapons, even if they shoot at us,” Zelensky said.
