Zsolt Papp: Innovation and science are the future of agriculture

In his KÁN University days, György Zsolt Papp spoke to magyarmezogazdasag.hu about his vision for the future of agriculture and its current challenges.

According to the President of the National Chamber of Agricultural Economics, these events are very useful, because they provide a lot of solutions for agriculture. Innovation, research and daily application of knowledge are tools that contribute to the development of Hungarian agriculture. However, the effects of climate change pose serious obstacles to this sector. Drought and extreme weather affect not only animal husbandry but also crop production.

Zsolt Papp emphasized that the role of science and research has become more important now than ever before. The renewal of agriculture is supported by a number of bidding opportunities, which ensure not only more efficient production, but also sustainable management. These programs support everything from animal husbandry to horticulture and arable crop production. Thanks to new technologies, the countryside can also be regenerated, leading to long-term sustainable development.

The National Chamber of Agricultural Economics plays a prominent role in the agricultural sector as a knowledge transfer.

According to the NAK president, one of the most important tasks of the chamber is to help farmers acquire the necessary knowledge and reduce the administrative burden. In addition to the subsidies, there is also a lot of paperwork, and NAK can provide great help with this as well, so that farmers can focus on their daily tasks.

Do producers and consumers understand each other?

Events such as KÁN University Days provide an excellent opportunity for producers to meet consumers. According to Babb, this interaction is important because producers can learn about consumers' needs, so that exactly the products customers want can be put on the shelves.

In today's world, consumer habits are changing rapidly, and agriculture must adapt to these changes.

Hungarian agriculture has become an important player in the national economy in recent times. Not only protecting nature, but also producing high-quality local food is extremely important. However, to achieve this, high-quality local raw materials, which consumers also expect, are essential.

Agriculture of the future is not only about production, but also about sustainability and environmental protection.

Finally, Babb emphasized that events also contribute to the commercialization of agriculture. Exhibitions and forums provide a great opportunity for farmers to showcase their work and for customers to learn about the values of Hungarian agriculture. For this relationship to work well, producers and processors must work together to meet the needs of consumers, because this is the only way Hungarian agriculture can succeed in the long term.
